What does it take to be a Loving Paws Volunteer?

  • Must possess a genuine desire to assist those who experience physical, mental or emotional challenges
  • Commit to at least 1 hour of volunteer time per month for a minimum of 1 year
  • Must keep track of volunteer hours through our website
  • Must be at least 16 years of age or be accompanied by an adult volunteer
  • Must be in good health with no communicable diseases
  • Must be able to move freely (stand, kneel, sit on floor, walk up and down, stairs)
  • Be comfortable with diverse populations of people in diverse settings
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Own a qualified, certified pet in good health
  • Monitor pet’s behavior
  • Must successfully complete Loving Paws Volunteer Team Evaluation bi-annually

What does it take to be a Loving Paws Certified Dog?

  • Must be at least one year of age
  • If adopted/rescued, must have been owned by handler for a minimum of 6 months prior to certification
  • Must have an annual veterinary examination on file with Loving Paws
  • Must be current on all vaccinations, including Bordatella
  • Must be heartworm-negative (Loving Paws recommends monthly heartworm prevention)
  • Must have no history of aggression to animals or people
  • Must have no problem with a particular group of people
  • Must successfully complete Loving Paws Volunteer Team Evaluation bi-annually
